OmeProductions LLC ~ Making movies that Matter!
At the Stone Creek Bar & Lounge on E.27th Street, the cast and crew of Finding Me converged to celebrate the completion of the film, and to show a teaser to eager media types like myself. Spotted in the crowd: DJ from the Doo-Dirty Show, Author Nathan James, baron. (who also performed), and various random beautiful people who's names I don't remember. The teaser, and it truly was a 'tease', left the crowd panting for more. This film is gonna knock your socks off, I can feel it. Keep your eye on Out IN Jersey magazine in January for my elusive interview with the cast and crew. ~~
Synopsis: Faybien Allen, a young black, idealistic, yet cautious homosexual begins a journey in finding out
who he is and how he fits in the world. He struggles with the fact he has no future goals, and that he
will never gain the approval of his father because he’s gay. Seeing how he can’t turn to his family for
help he has created a support system through his extended family; his friends.
He depends on his friend Greg Marsh, a gregarious, down to earth, free spirited, bi-sexual
college student to help motivate him. Through Greg’s nonchalant attitude Faybien learns to roll with
the punches of life as they come along. What Faybien doesn’t realize is through him Greg learns
how his attitude can affect others in a negative way.
He also depends on his close friend Amera Jones, a beautiful, sassy, opinionated, but open
hearted aspiring singer for support. Because she grew up around a lot of gay men she feels like she’s
an honorary gay man herself. This personality helps him feel slightly more comfortable with himself.
Once again though he doesn’t realize through his own struggle he helps her realize how her diva like
attitude pushes people away.
But even with the support of his friends it isn’t enough to push him out of his funk, until he
meets a man that pulls up into his life. Lonnie Wilson jump starts a feeling Faybien has suppressed
for a while now, love. Lonnie, an older, charming and charismatic man is comfortable with his sexuality. He’s attracted to Faybien and has no problem showing it. He challenges Faybien to
confront his fears head on.
While he builds up the strength he is confronted with another obstacle, Greg’s new
roommate Jaylen ‘Jay’ Timber. Jay is a shady, crafty and shifty guy. To Faybien Jay represents
everything he’s afraid of becoming if he doesn’t pull his life in the right direction. To Jay Faybien
represents what he was like before he made some of the bad choices in his life. Jay sees the
similarities the two shares, but Faybien doesn’t want to believe it.
Finally after friendships and relationships fall apart Faybien decides he needs to pull himself
together. Rather than dealing with what’s happening around him he decides to look for a better job.
At a job interview he meets a man that helps him more than he realizes. Cory Briggs, a kind
hearted, sweet heterosexual helps Faybien to see that there’s nothing wrong with being gay. Cory
explains that his little brother is gay and he loves him any way. This pushes Faybien to comfort his
father no matter the consequence.
After he does, he feels a little more confident with who he is and realizes that self acceptance
is a long and strenuous road, but a road worth taking.
