18 century meets the 21st in this pic. And lets give a Wendy Williams "How you doin'?" to the one in the middle.
Secondly, this should come as no surprise. Because scratch the surface of an anti-gay and you'll find an ol' school racist (try it, it works). Not to say that all Jews are racist - they surely are not (and were our staunchest allies in the Civil Rights movement) - just the vehemently anti-gay ones, which is why, no doubt, Carl Paladino likes them so much.
Speaking of bigots, The Jewish Chronicle Online did a piece on Uganda's tiny, poor Orthodox Jew community curiously titled, Menorahs in the Mist (link is to the repost on FailedMessiah.com because the comments are uh, informative).
I had an OMFG moment because of the instant mental leap to the 1988 Dian Fossie bio-pic "Gorillas in the Mist" starring Sigourney Weaver. The movie is set in Rwanda not Uganda, but non-Africans probably see little distinction between the two.
So, in case you missed it, the title was no accident and to some, these poor deluded people are the gorillas of the global Orthodox community. In all fairness, the article begins with a London woman going to see Gorillas first, and then finding these people. Peachy. Why do I suddenly need a Tums?
But bigots come in all colors.
A Black Voices article called Understanding Black Attitudes toward Homosexuality left me cold and no more knowledgeable about the matter than I already was, but one commenter suggested that religion was not "inborn". Which is laughable, because religious is about as inborn as you can get without it being genetic.
Muslim, Jehovah's Witness, Amish, Westboro Baptist Church freakazoid, Orthodox Jew - who, ironically, detest "brainwashing" of children toward tolerance of diversity, but confining them to 18th century garb is cool - all indoctrinate their children to believe in random silliness which takes years of therapy to overcome.
And most terrible of all: if mom & dad are fundie extremists, woe unto the children. Suicide bombers, assassins at abortion clinics, the wild-eyed zealots who picket funerals, all grew up being "brainwashed" by some funny hat wearin', holy-book thumpin' nut.
These pics are from my favorite movie about religion run amok - Mel Gibson's Apocalypto. Of course, the movie ends with Christians arriving on the shores of the enslaving, murderous, human-sacrificing heathens - when, history shows, they began their own campaign of enslaving and murdering, except in the name of Jesus.
<-- Rudy Youngblood *sigh* plays Jaguar Paw (who spends the entire movie fighting to keep from being sacrificed on an altar.)
Religion - mankind's most stupefying and evil invention.
