Coming out stories. We can't get enough of them. There are literally endless amounts on Youtube. Some bring us to tears, and some make us laugh - like this one where the kid was outed while off taking flute lessons (like, flute lessons didn't tip off the parents?!). But one thing I noticed is that the story tellers are getting younger. Maybe its the gadget generation, because there were young stories before (we all have them) but they were never recorded. I wish I had a recording of my coming out in the 80's.
Anyway ... this guy is pretty adorable, and representative of a lot of the stories I watched. Young, level-headed and confident (although he does suffer a bout of paranoia during this video confession). And then there this poignant video - Why Can't I be Normal - where his confidence is even shakier. A must watch.
This one below is an example of how parents with 'phobic views may become allies of the gay community one day. So come out, come out ... everyone. In MOST cases, there won't be a traumatic aftermath. And if it does go badly, well, it is what it is. Speak your truth, and let the chips (and friends and family) fall where they may. And you keep being you.
